Southern Shores is predominantly a year round residential seaside community that’s located at the foot of the Wright Memorial Bridge on North Carolina’s Outer Banks continuing to Hwy 12 parallel to the Atlantic Ocean. Southern Shores is well know for the flat top design homes that were built in late 1940’s and 1950’s with local materials, as the cost to bring in building material at the time was too high. So they harvested Juniper trees from the Currituck Mainland for the interior walls, sand and gravel were used to make the concrete blocks of the homes.
The real estate is dominated by attractive and often affordable single-family homes in neighborhoods with tall trees and canals for boating to the Currituck Sound. If oceanfront living is at the top of your wish-list, Southern Shores offers some the most unique and charming oceanfront properties.
